Three kinds of work
PrepGraph publishes research, sells a learning platform from its company site, sells courses and certifications, runs a hiring marketplace, trains teachers, runs a programme for schools and institutions, offers its platform to US charter schools and convenes a council on responsible AI in schools. All eight are the company. This page sets out how the three kinds of work are kept apart.

The formulation
What each kind of work owes
01Research discovers what is possible.
02The Council determines what is responsible.
03The products demonstrate what can be implemented.
— Umesh Sharma, Founder & CEO, PrepGraph
The sections below state what that separation forbids, and how a reader can check it.

In full
Three obligations
Three kinds of work sit behind these properties, and the reason to keep them apart is not tidiness. They carry different obligations and they fail in different ways. Research is obliged to publish the question it could not answer. A forum on responsible practice is obliged to write rules that bind the party paying for the room. A product is obliged to work on a Tuesday, in the period after this one, in a room of fifty, on a device shared between three students. That is a narrower and far less forgiving test than either of the others.
What goes wrong when the three are merged is specific. Research that must support a sale has its finding decided before its question is asked. A forum that must protect its convener’s revenue writes guidance the convener already satisfies, and the guidance works as a moat rather than a floor. A product built to demonstrate a research thesis ships the argument instead of the thing a teacher asked for, and the classroom pays for the argument.
The separation is therefore a set of prohibitions rather than a description of character. Research here does not clear a product for sale. The Council certifies nothing PrepGraph makes. Deployment confers no authority: that a system is running in schools is not evidence that it is right. The formulation quoted above states what each kind of work owes, and each is held to it on its own terms.
- Research
- Asks what can be known about a student’s understanding, and at what cost in effort, privacy and error. May not be cited as a reason to buy anything. Its most valuable output is a question stated precisely enough to fail.
- The Council
- Asks what a school should be willing to accept from any vendor running automated systems around children. May not certify, accredit or endorse, least of all its convener. A rule that cannot bind PrepGraph is not a rule.
- The products
- Ask what survives a real timetable, and are judged on that alone. May not borrow credibility from the research or authority from the Council. What a product does has to be shown on the product’s own terms.
The eight properties
What each property is, and whether money changes hands. Nothing below describes what any product does. That belongs on pages where it can be read as a product claim and argued with on those terms.
- research.prepgraph.com
- This site. PrepGraph’s research on synthetic memory: positions, open problems, and directions stated as questions. Nothing is sold here. An argument you are invited to test and dispute.
- prepgraph.com
- The company’s own site, from the classroom to the first job: what PrepGraph is, the tutor students and families start with, and the prices of everything it sells. Commercial. The platform’s prices are published here, and it is where you are asked to pay.
- courses.prepgraph.com
- The storefront where PrepGraph’s courses and certifications are found and bought by individuals. It sells; it publishes no research findings and claims no authority. Commercial. A course sold here is a product claim to be argued with on the product’s terms.
- talent.prepgraph.com
- PrepGraph Talent: a hiring marketplace where a candidate shows employers what they can do, through a skills passport and work simulations, and is introduced only with their consent. It publishes no research findings. Commercial. What it says about hiring is a product claim, to be argued with on the product’s terms.
- academy.prepgraph.com
- PrepGraph Academy: professional development for teachers, run as part of the business. Commercial. A teaching programme, not a research output, and not a credential the Council issues or recognises.
- partners.prepgraph.com
- PrepGraph for Institutions: the School Programme and partnerships for schools, colleges and institutes, and the portal through which a partner runs its side of the platform. Commercial. Nothing here is research and nothing here is Council material.
- charter.prepgraph.com
- PrepGraph for Charter Schools: the platform offered to US public charter schools and networks, with a pilot on one grade quoted per cohort in writing. It sells; it publishes no research findings. Commercial. What it says about the product is a product claim, to be argued with on the product’s terms.
- council.prepgraph.com
- The PrepGraph Council for Responsible AI & School Innovation – India: a forum on responsible AI in Indian schools, convened and funded by PrepGraph, with its Founding Chair in office. It holds no commercial role and endorses no vendor, this one included. The Council approves no product, PrepGraph’s included.
Where the boundary is
All eight properties are PrepGraph. The courses storefront, the hiring marketplace, the Academy, the institutions site, the charter-school site and the company site at prepgraph.com, which carries the platform, are commercial surfaces and read as such. This site is not commercial: it is PrepGraph’s research, written, funded and edited by PrepGraph, and it argues for positions PrepGraph holds. The Council is convened and funded by PrepGraph as well.
What keeps the three kinds of work apart is written down rather than asserted. The Council’s terms are published on its own site: who may sit and who may not, what the forum may and may not issue, how a member records dissent, and what happens when the convener wants a particular outcome. Written rules can be read by a stranger and checked against behaviour, which goodwill cannot.
The boundary can be tested. If the Council issued anything that functioned in practice as an endorsement, if PrepGraph’s own products sat outside what it examines, or if its published terms were amended without record, the boundary would have failed, and a reader holding these terms against the record would see it.
- Company voice
- All eight properties are PrepGraph describing PrepGraph. Six are commercial, counting the company site, which carries the platform and leads a reader to the other five; one is this site; and one is a forum the company convenes and funds. Non-commercial means only that nothing is sold here.
- Convened, not spoken for
- PrepGraph provides the funding and the convening. It does not provide the conclusions, and it is a subject of the forum’s attention rather than an exception to it. A voluntary forum: it advises, and it inspects, certifies and regulates nothing.
- How to check
- Read the Council’s published terms before its output, and judge the output by whether it holds its funder to the same standard as everyone else. Dissent recorded by members, and a member free to publish a resignation with its reasons, are the safeguards to look for.
What this site is not
This page exists so that a reader arriving from the Council can place what they are reading. The register here is argument and open problem: where a research page would ordinarily reach for a figure, this one reaches for a question.
Evidence is published as studies with their method attached, where it can be examined properly, never as a number on a page like this one.
- Not the product
- No capability of any PrepGraph system is described here, and nothing here is a specification of one. Product pages make product claims. That is their job, not this site’s.
- Not a sales page
- Nothing is offered for purchase. The commercial properties are named above so that a reader knows where they are. If a page here reads as a pitch, it is a defect.
- Not the Council
- Nothing on this site is issued by, approved by, or written on behalf of the Council, and its positions are not restated here. Where this page and the Council’s own text differ about the Council, the Council’s text governs.
Independence
Which pages are the company talking about itself
research.prepgraph.com is PrepGraph’s own research, in PrepGraph’s own voice. The PrepGraph Council for Responsible AI & School Innovation – India is convened and funded by PrepGraph, holds no commercial role, certifies nothing and endorses no vendor.
The first sentence covers every page on research.prepgraph.com, this one included. The second describes a forum whose separation rests on written rules a stranger can read and check against behaviour.

Notes
- The Council’s terms live on the Council’s own site. This page describes the boundary; it does not restate the terms, and the Council’s text governs where the two differ.
- The Council is a voluntary forum. It advises; it does not inspect, certify or regulate.
- Nothing the Council issues appears on this site first, and nothing on this site should be attributed to it.
